Where to find your MG paint colour code
Your MG's paint code is on the VIN plate in the door jamb. Here's where to look, what the code looks like, and how to find your colour if it's missing.

Where to look on your MG
- Door jamb. Open the driver's door and check the B-pillar, the upright between the front and rear doors, for a label or plate. If it's not there, try the passenger side.
- Under the bonnet. On older models, check the slam panel across the front of the engine bay, the bulkhead at the back of it, and the tops of the suspension turrets.
- Paperwork. The purchase invoice or the V5C logbook will at least give you the colour name, which you can search for.

- Call your local MG dealership, ask for the Parts department, and give them your registration or VIN. They can look up the factory colour code.
- Search by colour. If you know the colour name or roughly what colour it is, filter our MG colour codes by colour and year to narrow it down.

What you’ll need
Once you have the code, the finish tells you what to order. MG colours fall into these groups:
Single-stage
Solid colours
One paint. It dries to a gloss finish, so no lacquer is needed.
13 MG colours
Two-stage
Metallic, pearl and most modern colours
Basecoat, then clear lacquer over the top. Matt colours need a matt lacquer instead.
89 MG colours
Three-stage
Pearl tri-coat colours
Basecoat, a pearl mid-coat, then clear lacquer. Order both paints together so they match.
